2008 Regatta
As this event comes to a close, WOW would like to thank all the sponsors and participants that make this festival happen! We had great wind this year along with good music too. Now that the event is over we'll be uploading video footage as it becomes available and can't wait for you to check it out on our site, or at our official www.YouTube.com site. We'd love to have you check out the videos from this year and feel free to comment on them as well! The 2008 results will be posted (to the left) until next years results are out.

Can't wait to see everyone next year!

Music and Fire
The essence of the Unvarnished Music Festival is organic in nature. The music is generally unfettered, without a lot of electronic contrivances and gismo's. However, rest assured that musical energy will abound. The festival prides itself in fostering the individual musicians, whether professional or rank amateur, both on and off stage. The festival was created for musicians to interact with each other. While many festivals cater specifically to "the lowest common denominator" (what band will attract the most people to the county fair) the Unvarnished Music Festival provides a venue for a diverse group of musicians willing to share and experiment with this musical adventure. The festival is known as a "safe haven" for musicians wanting to associate with other musicians. Creating a haven for emerging musicians and people with an abiding interest in the musical arts is the goal. The public is invited to understand, enjoy, and be a part of this experiment. If you are a musician you are invited to attend. Everyone is invited to particpate in the evening shoreline jam. If you have questions call 507-372-7175 or 507-372-2919.

We look forward to your participation and arrival!

Waveboarding on Sailboard Beach
Taking advantage of the great wind, Augie shows me how to ride his wave board. He had an idea, after seeing all the windsurfers on the lake, to craft his own sail out of a worn kite. After using a bunch of tape and safety pins, he was able to get his sail just how he wanted it. He would use the sail while going downwind and hold it on one hand (closed) while coming back upwind. Being careful not to run into anyone, he showed me some of his moves as he zipped up and down the lake shore.

Regatta Underway!
Although my alarm was set to wake me up this morning, it was not necessary. I was slowly brought out of sleep by the familiar sound of the breeze getting stronger out of my bedroom window. Walking outside, I was able to see whitecaps forming on the lake. Looking up I saw the flags and windsocks fully horizontal. The sun took the edge off the cool morning air. Walking up and down sailboard beach volunteers can be seen setting up the numerous items needed to make this event possible. I also learned that there will be a plethora of food vendors this year. My attention was turned back to the wind which had already picked up. As I came back inside I checked the weather... Friday 20 knots, Saturday 23 knots and Sunday 16 knots... Wind. :)
